@Large-Montreals Best Kept Secret

It was a great time having @Large come out to play at Double Dutch...we caught up over dinner at Little Star on Valencia and then headed straight to DD. Harold AKA Iamfacemelter warmed things up with a dope 90's RnB set...Having @Large back in the place where he first put me on was very special! Can't wait to visit him in Philly and check out the party he does with Ill-Literate in Philly.

Friday May 7th-Double Dutch with DJ @Large

Every first Friday of the month I play at Double Dutch in the Mission. It is one of my favorite places to play because the vibe is like a house party-the dance floor gets packed and the energy is so contageous. Not to mention the bar owner and staff treat are the friendliest I've ever worked with.

I first played at Double Dutch a year or so ago on Fridays for Happy Hour with my friend Jason, AKA DJ @LRG. We met on the N-Line outbound. I was carrying a crate of records and when he approached me to talk I thought he was gonna ask about my "makeup case" (that's what most people mistake it for) and he laughed, then asked "You're a DJ?" We started talking and exchanged numbers. Then he invited me to play out with him.

From his all 45 sets, to dancehall sets, to his party rockin' panty dropppin' sets, he is amazing to watch. I am lucky to have him back this Friday while he visits from Montreal, which is where he lives now.
Also, iamfacemelter will be opening up.

Sunday Soul: Sweater Funk Sweetheart Evelyn

Another sunny Sunday in San Francisco...this jam is for my Sunday afternoon. Evelyn "Champagne" King is one of the Sweater funk Sweethearts, she gets played a lot in the basement on Sunday nights. Its amazing how young she sounds on this track, then when you listen to "Love Come Down" she sounds so grown! Most well known for being sampled by Ice Cube in "You Know How We Do It"

SUNDAY SOUL-Cloud One

Produced by Patrick Adams, soul genius and one half of P&P Records
From the album Atmosphere Strut, which was the only full length album they put out. The other recognizable track on the album is "Disco Juice", you may have heard it sampled by Mighty Dub Katz (Which just reminds me of Riverside, California in the late 90's for some reason...?)

SWEATER FUNK-BIRTHDAY EDITION

This was the ultimate cherry on top...I flew into Oakland Sunday night after my So Cal adventures and went straight to Li Po Lounge in Chinatown for our weekly party. I had my dates "Alexander O'Neil" AKA Glen and Dj Homero Espinosa...Found a basement crackin' with dancers and Dj B.cause primed and ready to hit the turntables. Highlights of the night was B.Cause playing Dayton "Sound Of Music" and this "Baby You're The One" by Wynd Chymes I threw down my favorite "Diva Funk" set which had alot of Cherelle and Alexander, Teena Marie, S.O.S. Band, Maryjane Girls, Vicky D etc...I Love my Sweater Funk family!

BAR DYNAMITE: APRIL 10th

Had the pleasure of playing with Beatnick and DJ Neva (Las Vegas) in San Diego on my birthday...Always a good time at Bar Dynamite. Alot of love from the crowd and the oh so common "I looked up at the booth and to my suprise saw a blonde girl boppin' behind the decks" Love my life. Definitely the best birthday I have ever had.

Sunday Soul-The Moments

The original Moments are from Washington DC and comprised of Mark Greene, Ritchie Horsey, and John Morgan. After 1968 Al Goodman and William Brown replaced Horsey and Morgan, first signed to Hog Records then signed to Stang Records (Sylvia Robinson's label and subsidiary of All Platinum Records) After Sylvia and the group had a falling out, the group had to change their name to Ray, Goodman, and Brown.
Would Sylvia Robinson be considered the female version of Lou Pearlman? (Referring to her association with Sugar Hill Gang) From what I have read, she is known for being somewhat sketchy, and in the case concerning The Moments, apparently falsifying some documents and not paying the original members for what they were owed. Nevertheless, The Moments produced some hits, and this is one of their most commercially successful hits, and one of my favorites. Released as a single.
