1,332 Days Later

On April 11th, 2009, I was propositioned to do this mix for a friends label as a podcast. I will never forget the bittersweet date since it was my 24th birthday and the day of my Grandpas funeral. Looking for inspiration I joined forces with DJ Idiom (Nyte Court), he bringing his expertise in production and I bringing some records (he brought his too) we spent hours in his studio drinking philz coffee creating this mix.
Work, conflicting schedules, girlfriends/boytoys, the ableton learning curve (on my part, not Idiom--he's a G) would make it so this mix took 3 years to complete.1,332 days later, it is now is the time to share it with you.

Daz-I-Cue and Red Bull Radio give love to Sweaterfunk

VOL. 20 DAZ-I-CUE RBMA

Daz played Sweaterfunk in 2010 (see video above) I was unable to make it to to LiPo, so the closest I have to that experience this is his recorded set. You can hear screams in the background, and at the very end of the night he says "the world will know about sweatafunk" in his thick british accent. It gives me chills every time....thank you Daz-I-Cue for spreading our crews music.
The link above leads to a mix which features "Why Can't We" by Nightwind (Soundboutique Records aka Sean Boogie) and "Supadrunk" by our charismatic MC K-MAXX (Also on Soundboutique)

Hellaween

Hey party people....been traveling a lot these past few weeks (SF/San Antonio/Bahston) and the blog is not getting much love. I'm sure y'all have been losing sleep over the lack of my updates....

But this weekend I am back at it here in Chicago, first playing at Simones on Pilsen Friday night. I have the decks all to myself for 4 hours and I truly get open....one of my favorite gigs in Chicago

Then Saturday I am playing with Soulphonetics at his monthly party DANCE SYNDROME....looking forward to it! Milwaukee Ave. on the Saturday before Halloween should be a shit show....stoked

SWEATER FUNK MASSIVE

I'm writing this blog entry from the friendly skies...returning to my Chicago Bear Den with no voice and an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. The past 4 days were filled with friends and good music (plus hella coffee and bomb mexican food)

Played Butter on Friday night which was one of my residencies back when I lived in SF...it was great to see my favorite bartenders and play my forbidden cornball jams

2-Step Lou dedicated this to Matthew Africa, this was one of his favorites

MATTHEW AFRICA

The Bay is in mourning right now...if you never met Matthew personally, you were at least influenced by him in one way or another.

Incredible DJ, 'gentleman and a scholar'...another reminder to love love love! Music is the answer and never hold back on letting someone know you care about them

Get To Know One Of My Flygirls

I am honored to consider Sughey one of my closest friends here in Chicago....we met at Zim Tawadas Labor Day BBQ last year. I sized her up and thought "Wow she has dope style who is this lady,  I wonder if she will be my friend" Grade school style...I was new to Chicago and had plenty of dude DJ friends but I needed a ryde or die chick that could be my partner in all of the single-girl advnetures I had coming my way. That is Sughey...

INTERVIEW TIME

DJ MAMABEAR - Full Feature from SUPER STEEZ on Vimeo.
"Keeper of the honey pot, Sister of Sweater Funk Cult, and flyer than your average bear!"

Sweater Funk Chicago Massive

This past weekend, 9 of the 13 of us formed like Voltron and played The Whistler, Empty Bottle, The Brickhouse and Goorin Bros. in-store. So it is no surprise I lost my voice Sunday evening. The highlight of the weekend was getting accosted on the dance floor by 2-Step Lou and watching Zim Tawada kick a guy out of his house & force him to hand over a fistful of cash. Know that you will never get away with peeing on a crate of records.

Thanks to Shredders for spearheading this event, it was such a success another event is being planned for Fall.

I miss my crew already
